How do I use Custody Schedule Builder?

Custody Schedule Builder is a tool within OurFamilyWizard that helps family law professionals create, visualize, and export custody schedules as PDF documents. Designed for attorneys, mediators, and other family law practitioners, it streamlines schedule creation by providing ready-to-use templates, automatic overnight percentage calculations, and clear visualizations of parenting time arrangements — all within the OurFamilyWizard Professional workflow.

Please Note: Custody Schedule Builder is currently in beta. Features and behavior may change. If you
have feedback, use the “Share it with us.” link at the top of the tool.

How to create a custody schedule

  1. Log in and open the tool
    • Log into your OurFamilyWizard Professional account: www.ourfamilywizard.com
    • Select the Custody Schedule Builder tab.
  2. Create a new schedule
    • Click New Schedule   in the top right.
    • Enter a Family Name for the schedule.
    • Click Create Schedule
  3. Choose a Custody Schedule template

You will need to select a Custody Schedule Template. Use the filter tabs to browse by
type. Click a template card to select it.

Please note: The Custom Schedule lets you assign each day of the week to a parent. It supports 1 to 4 week repeating patterns.

  4. Enter the co-parent names
    • Click Continue
  5.  Enter schedule details
    • Enter Start and End dates for the Custody Schedule
    • Select the co-parent who will have the first overnight transition.  After entering the required fields, the Custody Calendar will be generated. Days are color coded by co-parent. Overnight percentage and totals are displayed near the top of the custody calendar.

  6. Review the Custody Calendar. From the calendar you can add visitations, holidays, and print a PDF calendar.

Additional Options

Add Visitation

Click the Add Visitation button on the calendar to set up recurring non-overnight visits. This will add a color-coded visitation event to the existing calendar.

  1. Schedule the visit
    • Select the Visiting Parent
    • Select Day(s) of the Week
    • Set a Start Time and End Time
  2. Set the frequency
    • Choose how often the visit repeats

Add Holidays

You can create a holiday for any event that differs from the regular repeating pattern, including federal
holidays, religious holidays, school breaks, and vacations. The holiday will override the calendar for the selected parent on the specified date(s).

  1. Click + Add Holidays
  2. Search Common Holidays — type to find common holiday names; selecting one auto-populates
    the Holiday Name field
  3. Enter Unique Holiday — enter the name of any holiday to create a new holiday.
  4. To edit or delete a holiday, go to the Holidays page and click the holiday name. The Edit Holiday page
lets you update any fields, or you can click Delete Holiday to remove it.

Print / Export as PDF

Click the print icon (top right of the calendar, next to the New Schedule button) to open your
browser’s print dialog and export the schedule as a PDF.

Managing your schedules

Your saved schedules appear on the My Schedules page (the Custody Schedule Builder home screen).
Each schedule card shows the family name, template type, date range, and holiday count.

Actions available on each schedule include:

  • Open — click the family name to view the calendar
  • Rename — click Rename, type the new name, and click Save
  • Delete — click Delete to permanently remove the schedule
  • Invite to OFW — If the clients are not OurFamilyWizard subscribers, use this option to set up accounts and invite them to use OurFamilyWizard.

Important Limitations

Custody Schedule Builder is currently a template-based tool and does not support custom freeform schedule creation. Please also note:

  • Schedules are saved to your professional account only, not to a client’s individual OurFamilyWizard account. Schedules do not automatically sync to parent accounts in OurFamilyWizard.
  • The schedule will not automatically appear in the co-parents’ OFW accounts — they must still create
their own shared parenting schedule within OFW.
  • Custody Schedule Builder does not support fully freeform, day-by-day schedule editing (other
than through the Custom Schedule template, which uses a 1–4 week repeating pattern).

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Custody Schedule Builder included within OurFamilyWizard?

Yes. Custody Schedule Builder is included at no additional cost within the free OurFamilyWizard
Professional account.

Can I create a freeform custody schedule?

The tool is primarily template-based. A Custom Schedule option is available, which lets you assign
each day of a 1–4 week repeating block to either parent. Fully arbitrary, non-repeating day-by-day
schedules are not yet supported.
